Cannes, January 30, 2012 –
That’s right! White Shoes & The Couples Company – the indie pop sensation based in Jakarta, whom draw their inspiration from old Indonesian films and local jazz legends – will finally be seen and heard in Europe! They have been invited by Music Services Asia to perform at the MIDEM 2012 Conference & Music Festival, which is held annually in Cannes, France. The sextet, formed in 2002, is no stranger to performing across the ocean in other countries. Already signed to Minty Fresh Records (USA) for their North American, Japan, and Australian distribution; White Shoes & The Couples Company have stepped out off Asia twice in 2008, to play at South By South West in Austin, USA, which included a gig in San Francisco, and at CMJ Festival in New York, USA, which included gigs in Washington DC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The new album “Album Vakansi” also has been released in Japan by desinee records on August 2011. This time, besides playing in the festival in Cannes, their ‘Tour de Europe’ will include gigs in Paris (France), and Amsterdam (The Netherlands).
Meanwhile, the band is also preparing for yet another photography exhibition vis a vis their latest album, ‘Album Vakansi’, which will be held at dia-lo-gue art space (Jakarta) on February 18th, 2012. This exhibition project has been done a couple of times during their promotional tour in Indonesia, in cities like: Yogyakarta and Surabaya. The works shown in the exhibition are photos of White Shoes & The Couples Company which are done by photographer friends of theirs; including official band photos for publications and promo, rarely shown pictures, and shots taken in snap-shot/documentary style. Photographs taken by the band members during their tours, performances, and other goings-on, will also be exhibited. The close relation they have with the local art scene is the catalyst behind this kind of band activity.
‘Album Vakansi’, is expected to be released in LP format by Minty Fresh Records and will be available here very soon.
