After lurking in some files on Lulu’s harddisk, Lulu stumbled upon this song, Matel. Matel brings Lulu back in time where no one knew how to make a good record with a cheap price. Where the DIY artists are still countable by Panda’s fingers compared to nowadays where it looked like rats multiplying.
Word is, the album for this song, Kubik’s Violet, is going the be re-released celebrating it’s 10th anniversary. Oh hey what the hey, it’ll probably in better production than this cassette rip.

Koil - Breathe With Me

So the Indonesian Industrial-Metal Cowboys are making a comeback from a long hiatus since Megaloblast (2002). Lulu’ve been dying to hear some new materials for some time now, and when Lulu got the chance to meet Otong, the band’s frontman (He was so totally cute, btw :P), he gave Lulu this single.
It should be out with the Indonesian Rolling Stone next month, but hey, what the hey not.
The track is a full drum n bass track, not the kind of mediocre Koil songs you would’ve expected to hear. Imagine Koil performs in a rave party with 13th century gothic cathedral in some east europe country kind of setting. It’s 7 minutes long, but it’s worth the wait once you’ll get to the last minute with some drummy orgasm.

“about five years ago i had a dream i was on a website - www.arcadecoma.com - where you could play retro video games and pause the screen at any moment. you could then have the static game image printed onto a t-shirt (100% cotton) and sent to you. it was so vivid i awoke convinced that it must really exist. i scribbled down the url and tried it out the next time i was on the internet. it wasn’t there. so i never got my alex kidd in miracle world tee (aww) but i did take the name for my imaginary band” - arcadecoma.
he was done some reputable remix for some band such as for Cursive and recently i found an mp3 of Arcadecoma done a remix for Sajama Cut floating around the net.

Inspirational Joni
Posted by 1 year, 9 months agosetelah bosan dengan gelombang disko yang crowdnya dipenuhi anak ABG karena mereka lebih sering manggung di pensi-pensi anak sekolahan… Inspirational Joni jadi pilihan Panda yang suka ga betah dikerubungi anak ABG. karena band ini lebih banyak manggung di klub kecil, waktu malam dan tengah minggu. sebuah suasana yang sangat tidak kondusif bagi anak ABG yang masih sekolah. itulaj mengapa Panda cenderung lebih suka menonton Inspirational Joni dibandingkan band new-wave warna-warni yang ngetop itu.
Panda mulai mengikuti mereka sejak mereka jadi bintang di Classic Rock Cafe dengan vokalis Shera yang ugal-ugalan. sampai kemudian setelah vakum beberapa lama dan berganti vokalis menjadi anak perempuan bernama Nadia dengan gaya vokal yang berbeda.
dua-dua nya ada kekurangan dan kelebihan. kemudian baru-baru ini ga sengaja menemukan packaging CD dengan tulisan Inspirational Joni. ya udahlah Panda beli aja, pengen tau mereka sekarang musik nya gimana.
ternyata ga jelek-jelek banget untuk ukuran band indie lokal yang tidak terlalu besar. namun vokal di lagu “burn this city” tampaknya berbeda dengan yang suka diputar di radio. mungkin untuk menghindari image “karen o wannabe” . pilihan yang bagus.
jadi pengen nonton mereka lagi.

The Smiths Karaoke

Last December, Lulu met Phil Collins (not that bald drummer) at a gig in Jakarta, and he told Lulu he got this video project on filming karaoke performances on The Smiths song, entitled Dunia Tak Akan Mendengar.
For you all The Smiths fans like Lulu, this is your chance to get your hair cut and show the world your superstardom.

Panda still remember the first time Panda saw Goodnight Electric, it was as a duo at Soho Plaza Semangi, at a show by Deathrockstar (that famous local webzine). They use a CD player as their main instrument and both sing along. but the adorable Rebecca was replaced by two guys (oom Leo and Bondi) while the only original member (Henry Foundation) do the lead vocals.
three MicroMoog (if my eyes don’t lie to me). 3 vocals, and thousands dancing. can’t do no wrong.
now i wonder where they are… a second album? or they just simply disappeared.
i heard some rumours about their re-mixes project.
can’t wait too damn long…

Beberapa bulan lalu Panda ke Bandung pengen tau tentang TRL di perempatan jalan Braga. kebetulan bertepatan dengan sebuah acara lokal dengan bintang tamu entah siapa aja waktu itu, cuma sempet nonton satu band dengan dua vokalis yang satu cowo kurus dengan suara serak namun lantang dan aksi model model punkrocker gitu. yang satu lagi cewe dengan suara yang offkey sambil joget-joget kaya kemasukan roh.. suara gitar superkering dan kasar dari gitaris muka oriental baju acak-acakan dan sobek sobek..
namun entah mengapa Panda jadi lumayan terkesima saat itu.
dan tiba-tiba dikomputer seorang kenalan ada MP3 mereka, namun sayangnya ga ada judulnya.
dan yang lebih sayang lagi pas baca Myspace mereka
“We stopped all band’s activity since December 2006, since Francis’ about to depart to Sydney for college and Nikko’s hailing to Philadelphia to do ‘God-knows-what’. So, again our songs will be avaiable on Myspace soon enough. Big apologise for the delays.”

Seringai - Serigala Militia

Seringai’s next album, is one of my most anticipated album this year. Word is, the production is still clogged due to their producer’s divided focus on reggae music. This is probably why their next album spoiled with marijuana theme.
In the meanwhile, a clip was produced out of the Cerahati student workshop last year on their upcoming song Serigala Militia. It’s made with Wood-cut MDF media stop motion by Tromarama. So here it is, the video the accompany you from waiting on their next album, with a high quailty audio too.

The Southern Beach Terror

I must say I’m actually quite suprised to hear them. To tell you the truth, I’ve never heard of any Indonesian band played surf music before. The closetest thing to that is some rockabilly acts from Bali, such as The Hydrant and Suicidal Sinatra, but surf-rock? And this band came from Yogyakarta, whose city, which surfing scene didn’t exist at all.
The Southern Beach Terror got their names of the late 80s Indonesian cult horror movies of Nyai Roro Kidul, the sea Queen/goddess of the mythical kingdom which resides south of Yogyakarta. Wicked!
Anyway, being a long time fan of The Ventures and Dick Dale, I’m happy to see that there are a local band playing surf music. While their songs are fully instrumental, I think some vocal arrangements would be nice.
