Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait

When people talking about Zinedine Zidane, they may talking about two different entities: the greatest football artist since Diego Maradona or the head-butting juggernaut with a sore spot on Italian ‘yo mama’ jokes. Fortunately most football fans still remembers him as the former, and a bunch of fellow Gallics decided to make a recorded full game between Zidane’s former team Real Madrid and Villareal into a cinematic tribute to his greatness. Another wise thing that they did is to hire Glasgow post-rockers Mogwai to do the musical score, which they did sublimely.
Leaving their balls-to-the-wall-of-sound approach from ‘Mr. Beast’ behind, Mogwai went back to their ethereal self from ‘Come On Die Young’ days to create beautiful soundtrack to Zidane’s superb ball skills with plenty of subtle multi-layered string plays and haunting synths.
