Despite of currently being the butt of many ‘Satan’ jokes due to Gaath’s intentionally hilarious interview on Sam Dunn’s Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, Gorgoroth continues on releasing the genuine sounds from the golden age of Norwegian black metal, album after album. With Satyricon’s Frost behind the drumkit, ‘Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam’ brings the good old memories of Mayhem’s legendary De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas or Darkthrone’s A Blaze In The Northern Sky. The fairly executed production (unlike the overproduced beyond listenable releases from Dimmu Borgir) made it more accessible to non-black metal listeners yet took nothing of the band’s trademark manic and barbaric nature.
