Kings of downtempo, Kings of Convenience, after a five-year hiatus, have come up with a new long-awaited release that is sending fans into quiet raptures with its collection of softer-than-ever hushed-folk-pop tunes delivered with just two voices, two guitars and the occasional piano plink.

It’s been almost five years since Norwegian duo and unlikely leaders of the early 2000s’ New Acoustic Movement the Kings of Convenience unleashed a quiet storm internationally with its second album of soft acoustic folk-pop, Riot on an Empty Street. And against expectations that its third and newest album would weave in the duo’s more flamboyant half Erlend Øye’s house and techno interests, Declaration of Dependence sees the Kings going even softer, darker and sparser.

There is also a new honesty, emotional depth and maturity in this album. In the five years that have passed, Eirik Glambæk Bøe has become a father and Erlend has lived in Berlin fronting dance-pop band Whitest Boy Alive. Last but not least, the two, both now back home in their hometown of Bergen, have come to grips with their differences and their dependence on each other as a musical duo. These rites of passage now see the duo bringing to their latest collaboration in Declaration of Dependence a new assuredness, sharper songwriting, a deeper lyricism and an autobiographical candour.

“What we build is bigger than the sum of two” goes haunting album opener 24-25, followed by “So we meet again after several years, several years of separation. Moving on, moving around… Did we spend this time chasing each other’s tail?” in the jaunty Boat Behind, amidst a collection of unadorned, often bossa-nova-tinged and always emotionally-nuanced songs filled with confessions and reflections on everyday life, loss, politics, making music, romantic and bromantic relationships, a collection that seems a “quiet protest against loneliness”.

Fans of the Kings will, doubtless, be thrilled with this new material from the Kings. But non-fans with a penchant for quiet melancholy, Simon-and-Garfunkelish vocal harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and simple, subtle, finely-turned melodies will find themselves similarly caught in a dreamy thrall in this intimate Kings concert of delicately poised, pared-down dual guitar and soft vocals singing of grownup realities and dreams with the bittersweet hush of an autumn’s rainy day.

Electrico is a pop rock and indie Singaporean band originally formed in Singapore in 1996, which went by the name Electric Company in 1996. This band is still active with the present line-up which includes David Tan, Desmond Goh, William Lim Jr.

Tahun 2010 ini LA LIGHTS INDIEFEST memberi gebrakan baru dengan diselenggarakannya FestiveSound 2010. Hadir dengan line up 15 band dan dua orang DJ yang bermain di tiga panggung berbeda juga tak ketinggalan Top 10 Finalis LA Lights Indiefest 2009, LA Lights Indiefest Festive Sound 2010 dipastikan akan menjadi sebuah festival yang akan memanjakan para penikmat musik indie Tanah Air.

Dengan deretan line up artists seperti Camera Obscura, Electrico, Pesawat, Efek Rumah Kaca, Mocca, The Banery, Burgerkill, SORE, C.U.T.S, Vincent Vega, The Trees & The Wild, Scared of Bums, Nemesis, Morning Blue, Rockstar ConspiracY, DJ Steph mag dan DJ Arian13.

Salah satu line up yang bakal menjadi perhatian utama adalah Camera Obscura. Bagi pecinta indiepop, mungkin nama ini sudah tidak asing di telinga mereka. Terbentuk di Glasgow, Skotlandia, Camera Obscura merilis album perdana mereka ´Biggest Bluest Hi Fi´ yang diproduseri oleh Stuart Murdoch, vokalis band indiepop Belle and Sebastian di tahun 2001.

Selain Camera Obscura, LA Lights Indiefest Festive Sound 2010 juga mendatangkan dua band asal negeri jiran Singapura dan Malaysia. Dari Singapura ada Electrico yang bermain di jalur rock alternative. Jika melihat porto folio aksi panggung mereka yang pernah bermain di Rock The World VII, SXSW Festival, penampilan Electrico sayang untuk dilewatkan.

Dari Malaysia, LA Lights Indiefest Festive Sound 2010 mendatangkan Pesawat. Band garage rock yang baru saja meraih The Best Freaking Act of the Year in VIMA 2010 Awards ini tentunya akan menjadi penampil yang juga wajib untuk ditonton.

Satu lagi band yang wajib ditonton di LA Lights Indiefest Festive Sound 2010 adalah Rockstar ConspiracY. Jika melihat dari namanya, Rockstar ConspiracY, memang band ini berisi dari rockstar yang berkonspirasi untuk memainkan musik rock yang bermutu. Rockstar ConspiracY terdiri dari rockstar senior seperti Krisyanto, John Paul Ivan, Ovy /Rif, Krisna J Sadrach dan Richard Mutter.

Dari balik meja turntable, LA Lights Indiefest Festive Sound 2010 menghadirkan DJ Stepmag asal Perancis yang akan memainkan musik trance dan DJ Arian13 yang biasa memainkan track-track rock.

Karena kota adalah rumah bagi penduduknya.

Bandung Affairs diawali oleh semangat untuk mengajak masyarakat agar lebih partisipatif dengan masa depan Kota Bandung. Kami seperti membentuk suatu ruang imajiner kota melalui media lain, karena pembentukan ruang imajiner khalayak sama penting dengan bentuk akhirnya, karena proses itu perlu dimanfaatkan sekaligus sebagai sarana pewacanaan, pembelajaran, dan pembentukan pemahaman dan tindakan nyata. Prosesnya adalah kesempatan untuk membangun rasa memiliki, sambil membangun kesadaran yang diperlukan.

L.A. Lights Concert Massive OddsVille adalah sebuah pagelaran musik yang dipastikan bakal menyuguhkan pagelaran musik yang berbeda dari yang sudah ada. Perbedaan itu dimulai dari tatanan panggung, tata cahaya, hingga kostum yang dikenakan band yang akan mendukung acara yang bakal diadakan di GOR Kertajaya, Surabaya, 20 Maret dan diteruskan ke Jogja Expo Center (JEC) , Jogjakarta, 21 maret.

L.A. Lights Concert Massive OddsVille akan menyuguhkan lima band dari genre yang beragam mulai dari The Racoon yang bergenre indie rock , Camera obscura dengan warna indiepop–nya , Shaggy Dog yang masih setia di jalur ska, The S.I.G.I.T. yang memainkan campuran blues dan rock sampai sajian R´B a la RAN. Semuanya bercampur dalam satu panggung.

Jogjakarta sebagai kota kedua L.A. Lights Concert Massive OddsVille akan dimeriahkan oleh The S.I.G.I.T., band icon Jogjakarta Shaggy Dog dan Camera Obscura. Khusus untuk Camera Obscura, penampilan di Jogjakarta adalah konser kedua mereka di Indonesia. Karena malam sebelumnya band asal Skotlandia ini tampil di L.A. Lights Indiefest Festivesound 2010 di Bandung.

CAMERA OBSCURA – terbentuk di Glasgow, Skotlandia di tahun 1996 dan mereka merilis album debut Biggest Bluest Hi Fi di tahun 2001.Dua album terakhir mereka, Let’s get Out of This Country serta My Maudlin Career yang dirilis di tahun ini oleh label legendaris 4AD, mendapat banyak respon positif dari berbagai media.
Lagu mereka juga telah tampil pada beberapa film Hollywood serta serial televisi antara lain PS I Love You, Over Her Dead Body, Grey’s Anatomy hingga The OC yang semua itu membuat banyak orang di luar sana menjadi penggemar baru mereka.

THE RACOONS – adalah band asal British Colombia, Kanada yang dibentuk pada tahun 2008 oleh Matthew Lyall dan Murray Mckenzie. Band ini dikenal lewat albumnya Islomania yang dirilis pada tahun 2009 lalu dengan lagu-lagu andalan Be My Television, Room To Operate, Tangiers yang mengisi segment acara dari televisi Kanada, YTV dan telah berhasil meraih beberapa penghargaan seperti Most Promising Band (2009) dari Monday Magazine, Band Of The Month dari The Zone, nominasi Best New Artist 2009 dari CBC Radio.

Cobra Starship is an American Alternative Dance band created by former Midtown bassist and lead vocalist Gabe Saporta, who is also lead vocalist for Cobra Starship. Other members consist of guitarist Ryland Blackinton, bassist Alex Suarez, Nate Novarro on drums, and Victoria Asher on keytar, all of whom provide backing vocals.

The Fray is an American four-piece piano-rock band from Denver, Colorado. Formed in 2002 by schoolmates Isaac Slade and Joe King, the band achieved mainstream success with the release of their debut album, How to Save a Life in 2005, which was certified double platinum by the RIAA, and was also certified platinum in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and in the UK. The Fray achieved national success with their first single, “Over My Head (Cable Car)”, which became a top ten hit in the United States. Jens Martin Lekman is a Swedish indie pop musician residing in Melbourne, Australia. His music is guitar-based pop with heavy use of samples and strings; the lyrics are often witty, romantic, and melancholic. His work is heavily influenced by that of Jonathan Richman and Belle & Sebastian, and he has been likened to Stephin Merritt (of The Magnetic Fields) and David Byrne

Imogen Heap is a Grammy-nominated British singer and songwriter from Romford, Havering. She is known for her work as part of Frou Frou and for her 2005 solo record Speak for Yourself, which she wrote, produced and mixed. In 2006, Heap was nominated for two Grammy Awards. The Misfits are an American rock band often recognized as the progenitors of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk rock and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. Founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey by singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig, the group had a fluctuating lineup during its first six years with Danzig and bassist Jerry Only as the only consistent members. During this time they released several EPs and singles and, with Only’s brother Doyle as guitarist, the albums Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), both considered touchstones of the early-1980s hardcore punk movement. The Misfits disbanded in 1983 and Danzig went on to form Samhain and then Danzig. Several albums of reissued and previously unreleased material were issued after the group’s dissolution, and their music became influential to punk rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock music of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

After a series of legal battles with Danzig, Only and Doyle regained the rights to record and perform as the Misfits. They formed a new version of the band in 1995 with singer Michale Graves and drummer Dr. Chud. This incarnation of the Misfits had a sound much more rooted in heavy metal and released the albums American Psycho (1997) and Famous Monsters (1999) before dissolving in 2000. Only then took over lead vocals and recruited former Black Flag guitarist Dez Cadena and former Ramones drummer Marky Ramone for a Misfits 25th Anniversary tour. This lineup released an album of cover songs entitled Project 1950 and toured for several years. In 2005 Ramone was replaced by Robo, who had played with Black Flag in the early 1980s and had also previously been the Misfits’ drummer from 1982 to 1983. The current lineup of Only, Cadena, and Robo continues to tour and has announced plans to record an album of new material.

Copeland is an American rock band, originally formed in 2000 by singer Aaron Marsh (who also plays the guitar, mellotron, organ, and piano) with his friend, bassist and backup singer James Likeness, in the city of Lakeland, Florida.

On October 29th, 2009, Copeland released an official statement that after a farewell tour in the spring, they would be ending Copeland. They made it clear that it was not a bitter break up, they had just run their course as Copeland. They did say that there could possibly be one last studio album, but the spring tour would be their last.

Alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, Deep Purple are considered to be one of the pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock. Formed in 1968, the band still remains one of the hardest touring rock acts on the road almost as well known for its frequent changes of line-up as for its music. Deep Purple’s current line-up comprises of members: Don Airy, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Steve Morse and Ian Paice.

Securing US and European success in the late 1960’s the band mastered its signature rock sound with extensive touring and song writing on the road. Recording albums at a prolific rate, it wasn’t until 1971 that the band recorded (arguably) its most enduring album Machine Head including tracks that became live classics such as “Highway Star”, “Space Truckin’”, “Lazy” and “Smoke on the Water”. The album was due to be recorded at a casino in Montreux, using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, but a fire during a Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention gig burned down the casino. The album was actually recorded at the nearby empty Grand Hotel. This incident famously inspired the song “Smoke on the Water”. In 1972 the band undertook four North America tours and the August tour of Japan that led to a double-vinyl live release, Made in Japan. Originally intended as a Japan-only record, its worldwide release saw the double LP become an instant smash hit. The album continues to be one of rock music’s most popular and highest selling live-concert recordings.

Now with 18 albums to its credit, Deep Purple continue to record and garner success. Most recently 2005’s album Rapture of the Deep secured US and European chart success, once again delighting fans old and new. New recordings are eagerly awaited.

Raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1997, where he refined his skills and gained a following. His first two studio albums, Room for Squares and Heavier Things, did well commercially, achieving multi-platinum status. In 2003, he won a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance Grammy Award for “Your Body Is a Wonderland”.

Warbringer is an American thrash metal band. The band formed in 2004 as ‘Onslaught’ but changed their name after learning that a UK thrash metal band was already using the name. Warbringer is signed to Century Media Records. Century Media signed Warbringer after seeing them at a local show in LA. Originally, Century Media was at the show to see another LA thrash metal band but decided to sign Warbringer instead. Warbringer’s second album Waking Into Nightmares was released on May 19th, 2009. Broken Social Scene are a Juno Award-winning Canadian Indie rock band, a musical collective including as few as six and as many as nineteen members, formed in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. All of its members currently play in various other groups and solo projects, mainly based around the city of Toronto. The band refuses the label “supergroup,” based on size or the ubiquity of their members, claiming that in the indie scene everyone is involved in more than one project. The group’s sound could be considered a combination of all of its members’ respective musical projects, and is occasionally considered baroque pop. It is characterized by a very large number of sounds, grand orchestrations featuring guitars, horns, woodwinds, and violins, unusual song structures, and an experimental, and sometimes chaotic production style from David Newfeld, who produced the second and third albums.
